Frequently Asked Questions:

What should I wear?

You can wear anything you would like. These are your pictures and should reflect your personality. As for my maternity clients, I can photograph you dressed in a formal or totally nude. It is what you are comfortable wearing that counts. I have all types of fabrics to do fabric wraps. I also have sarongs and tank tops. You are welcome to use what I have or bring what you would like to wear. For spouses or siblings, I suggest anything solid- white shirts and jeans, black shirts and khakis, etc. Patterns usually don’t look right- just something plain photographs better. For the newborn pictures, I suggest you bring a white onesie, maybe a pink or blue onesie. It is important to remember that they will be laying down for most of the pictures- you may want to consider this when choosing a real fluffy or fancy outfit. Something simple and comfortable looks best. For the parents of the newborn and all babies through 12 months, I ask you to bring a black shirt and pants for yourself. For family pictures, I suggest something solid and plain. Again, white shirts and jeans, red shirts, black shirts, Khakis photograph best.

How long does it take?

It takes approximately one hour. It depends on whether you choose to put children in some shots with you. This can take slightly longer.

Can I bring my children?

Absolutely. I have small children. We have tons of toys and videos. Keep in mind that it will take longer if you bring your children. This is fine with me. Just prepare for a little longer session.

What is the best time during my pregnancy to take the pictures?

I have taken pictures as early as 16 weeks and as late as 42 weeks. For regular belly shots the prime time is between 30 and 35 weeks. However, if you are wanting progressional pictures, to capture your growth, we need to photograph about every 4 weeks, starting sometime between week 20 and week 24.

How long does it take to get my pictures?

You will get an email with all your pictures later that same day. Your CD will be ready for pick up the next day. Prints or special effects will take 7 to 10 days.

When is payment due?

Payment is due at the time of the shoot. Any additional prints can be paid for at the time of pick up. Cash or checks only, please.

Should I do anything ahead of time to prepare for the pictures?

For my maternity clients, it is best if you can avoid wearing any tight clothing over your belly for a couple of hours before bare belly shots. If you are planning on bare belly shots, just put your pants below your belly to come to the session. This will avoid a line around your belly from the waistband. I also suggest you do not wear any heavy foundation. You don't want your face a different color than your belly.

For toddler pictures, I suggest scheduling your appointment at a time that is good for the toddler. Try to schedule after naps, after they have been fed. Trust me, a mother of 2 toddlers myself, I know this is nearly impossible since they NEVER eat or sleep when you need them to. However, it is a more pleasant shoot if they are not tired or hungry. I just want the babies to be happy, I never want the shoot to be overwhelming or scaring. I always want them happy to come back- a fun place!

I also suggest you do not wear any heavy foundation. You don't want your face a different color than your belly.

Can you edit out stretch marks?

Sure, I can. Almost everyone I have photographed has had stretch marks to some degree. Some women choose to cover them with fabric or shadows. It is up to you. It depends on the look you are trying to achieve. Just keep this in mind. Don't let stretch marks keep you from getting the photographs! There are ways to handle them if it is a problem for you.
